Prayer was always a struggle for me. I didn’t know what to say or how to say it or even when to say it. When I was a kid I memorized a “before meal” prayer and a “before bed” prayer, but I never really felt like I was talking to God. I mostly did it for my parents, and not very often.
A few years ago someone taught me that God already knows what is in our hearts. He knows exactly what we need long before we need it. He wants what is best for us, which rarely coincides with what we want. And He wants us to talk to Him as if He is the perfect father, which He is–our Heavenly Father.
And….we don’t have to speak in King James english for Him to understand us. Thank God, right?
And then I stumbled across this verse from Paul’s letter to the Romans:
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. Romans 8:26-27 NLT
The Holy Spirit really prays for me?
Not only that, but pleads for me?
And God listens?
Now that is amazing!!

Yes, thank goodness we don’t have to speak in King James English (or Aramaic, or Greek, or…) to catch God’s ear! I still smile when I hear my Hawai’ian husband chatting with the Big Guy in Pidgin…

Hi Kana, thanks for the comment. Hawaiian? Very cool. I would love to hear that!
I used to live in Pocatello. Love the Rocky Mountains!
