Most moms I know, including my lovely wife, lead extremely busy lives. And many also have full time jobs on top of that. Finding time to exercise and eat right can be a real challenge. Here are 7 tips to help all of the amazing moms out there reach those fat loss goals…

  1.  Quit Dieting!  Actually, quit yo-yo dieting, and just eat what you know is good for you: vegetables, fruit (fruit juice doesn’t count!), lean meats, fish, etc. Go to the top of this page and click on SMART Guidelines (Eat Smart/Move Smart/Rest Smart) PDF. Print it and put it on your fridge.
  2.  Take a Bath!  Yes, you read that correctly; close the door to the bathroom (lock it if needed), maybe turn on some soothing music, and take a long, hot bath. Stress is one of the biggest contributors to weight gain because of how it affects our hormone balance (Can Stress Cause Weight Gain via WebMD). Do this at least 2-3 days per week. Tell your husband I said it’s okay. 🙂 And after your bath it’s time to…
  3.  Go to Bed (earlier)!  Do your best to get to bed no later than 10:00 pm EVERY night, even weekends (unless you have a hot date with the hubby!). A good night sleep is essential for good health, and it allows you to get up early enough to get in a workout before the kids have to get up for school. Check out this article on How Better Sleep Helps Your Waistline. Speaking of workouts…
  4.  Do Squats!  And other strength training exercises. And no, you will not begin looking like Arnold. Squats, done properly will strengthen not only your thighs, but also your glutes (aka: butt!) and your core. It is considered by many to be the best overall exercise you can do. Try adding in some push-ups and planks too. Here’s a video on How to Perform Squats, Push-ups, Pull-ups, and Planks. Before, during, and after your workout be sure to…
  5.  Drink Water!  If you really want to get back into those size 6 jeans again, STOP drinking calories! And Diet Coke is just as bad! If you want to see what diet sodas do to your body, check this out: What one can of Diet Coke does to Your Body in One Hour. And make sure to…
  6.  Walk More!  Try to do it outside in the fresh air and sunshine (best source of Vitamin D3). Walking burns about 110 calories per mile according to this article from Runner’s World. Here is another great article on the Benefits of Walking. And after your pre-supper walk…
  7.  Eat Broccoli!  I know, I already mentioned vegetables in tip #1, but most people don’t realize how important it is that we eat more vegetables. The typical American diet might consist of two servings of vegetables a day, and that’s being generous. Eat more vegetables and you will not only feel fuller while consuming fewer calories but get all of the nutrients that come with them.
